CBHS Newsletter 21 - Nov '13

Dear Parents

2014 HOLIDAY DATES BACK TO NORMAL:

With regard to the changes in Term and Holiday dates, I am really sad to have to inform you that the WCED has now thought about the changes we and most schools in the area requested and have said "no" to them. We incorrectly assumed that the "yes" Westerford received would be a "yes" for all schools. At the time I believe the WCED planned to do this. However, now on reflection they appear to have changed their minds. The 2014 school terms will have to follow the national term dates.

Parents who have planned family holidays around the dates we issued earlier must still proceed. The four days in the middle of all the long weekends that would have made up a 17 day holiday will now be school time. We will assist children who are away at this time to catch up on work they have missed.

The dates for 2014 are:

Term 1:  15 January - 28 March
Term 2:  7 April - 7 June
Term 3:  21 July - 3 October
Term 4:  13 October - 10 December

Grade 8 & 9 Music Recital:

On Thursday evening, 31 October 2013, we were treated to an hour of music by the Grade Eight- and Nine music pupils. The performers entertained us with an array of instruments from saxophone, clarinet, piano, trumpet, violin to a full rock band with drums and electric guitars. We were also treated to great vocal performances. A big thanks to Ms Martens and Mr Cawood and the part-time music teachers for making this possible.

School Exams:

All pupils start writing exams on Wednesday, 6 November 2013. Every effort has been made to create a balanced exam timetable, that allows each pupil to perform at their very best. Can you please encourage them to keep studying for the entire exam session, and provide the necessary structure and support that your child needs.

Some suggestion are:
• Discuss with your child their exam timetable and study plan
• Help them stay focused by managing TV and computer gaming time
• Keep the family structure of meals, getting up and going to bed times
• Remember to ask each day how the exam went.

We have to meet with the Inspector to approve our results on the 3 December 2013, and will then be able to issue reports on the 4 December, which is the last day of school for the pupils.

BUDGET 2014 - NOTIFICATION OF PARENT MEETING:

The Budget for 2014 will be presented to the parents at a meeting on the 21 November 2013 at 18h00 in the School Hall. All parents are invited to come and be part of approving the Budget for 2014, and consequently the school fees for 2014.

Two weeks before the 21 November, parents are invited to ask the school for a copy of the proposed Budget.
