Good Morning School
So for the past however many years, the talk in this country has been 2010. 2010 this, 2010 that, and when discussing South Africa, the conversation always turns to 2010. Now it’s here. It’s arrived and for most people it doesn’t feel any different, but maybe that’s just because we haven’t opened your eyes to it.
The way I see it, is that our whole country has been so involved in preparations for 2010 and now it’s arrived all our country can do is make the best of it. I think a similar situation has arisen at our school. Since us matrics have been here, it seems that every year our school as a whole improves. It seems like every year our sports teams are stronger, our academics get better and we take part, competitively or not, in so much more. And now, it’s 2010. This is it! This is the year where our whole school can over-perform, where our records can be broken and where previous expectations can fly out the window.
I think as a school we can raise the bar for 2010, in some ways it’s already been done. The 100% matric pass rate last year as well as the higher work standards we’ve all heard about. The trick is to bring that higher standard into all aspects of our school life. We have SO MUCH talent. Culture, sport, academics we have it all, and now it’s up to us.
If we can go into this year saying “2010 THIS IS IT” and put our heart into everything we do, then we can prove to other schools that we all share a passion that is only found right here at Camps Bay High School.
Standing here before you, I am so excited for this year. I’ll admit it, I’m nervous for the year ahead, but the potential that is here within this hall is enormous. So I’m going to ask you guys to help me. Let’s take this school to heights we’ve never reached before, because I have high expectations for all of you and more importantly for this school as a whole. I know we can do it. Let’s really make 2010 a year to remember. THIS IS IT!
