CBHS Newsletter 5 - Nov '10

Dear Parents

Today marks our last formal teaching day for the year. On Monday the exam session starts and will continue until Friday 3rd December 2010. This morning, in Assembly, Mr Mostert briefed the school on the exam rules.

The WCED wishes each pupil to be at school every day during the exams. Parents may choose to keep their children at home if they so wish, but must furnish the school with a letter if this is the case. Pupils attending school on their non-exam days will be put into supervised study classes. The times during the exam are 08h00 to 13h00 every day. There will be a break from 09h00 to 09h30. If pupils write a short exam they must come to school with material to study from in the time prior to the exam.

The text books that the school issued MUST be returned after their final exam in that subject. We have to replace all lost or damaged books and will expect you to pay for your child’s lost books.

BUDGET MEETING
24TH NOVEMBER 2010 @ 5:30PM
In the John Ince Hall

This is a second notification to all Parents inviting you to attend a meeting where we approve the school budget for 2011. If you want to view the budget prior to this meeting, please mail me on dekorte@campsbayhigh.co.za. At this meeting we will set the school fees for 2011. The current proposal is an 8% increase of fees for 2011 to R20 500 a year.

SPORT

Waterpolo (Boys)
The 1st team played against a combination of the 1st and 2nd team of Westerford. They played well and were leading with one chukka to go when unfortunately Westerford came back strongly and won 6 – 4. Well done to the team for a great match and special mention to be made of Gabriel Hair for some fantastic saves.

Swimming
Camps Bay took part in a relay gala and came 2nd overall. Congratulations to the U14 girls and U16 boys who won all of their races. Thanks to all the officials who made the day possible.

Tennis (Girls)
The 1st team played against Springfield and drew 3 – 3.

Tennis (Boys)
Our 1st boys’ tennis team has had a good term so far. Having remained undefeated in the previous season in the 3rd league, they were promoted to the 2nd league and have gone from strength to strength. Of the four matches played this term, only one ended in a defeat of 2 - 4 to Bishops. In the other matches they beat SACS 4 – 2, Fishoek 6 – 0 and Westerford 5 – 1. The team consists of Nicholas Ngcobo, Elvin Khanyere, Shaheen Wadvalla and Stephen Hagglund. Well done boys, keep it up!

Basketball (Girls)
All the teams played against Bergvliet.
U16s won 16 – 6. Robin-Sue Nicholas scored 4 baskets.
The U19 won 30 – 9. Demi van Reenen, Khanyisa Sidwendu and Cindy Akinyi scored 5 baskets each. Every player scored at least once. Well done!

Cricket
On 30th October the U15s played against Jan Van Riebeek who batted first and scored 65 runs. Good bowling performance by Lunga (5 overs – 3 wickets for 19 runs) and Ben Samsodien (2 overs – 3 wickets for 10 runs). Camps Bay then batted and scored 67 runs for 3 wickets.
Top Scorer was Liam Adams who scored 33 runs not out. Camps Bay won by 7 wickets.
The U19s played Table View. CBHS batted first and scored 76 runs. Cavan Fyfe batted excellently and scored 39 runs. Table View passed the score by 1 wicket left. Ntsika Shushu bowled brilliantly to take 5 wickets for 20 runs. Table View beat CBHS with 1 wicket. Well done on a good fight-back.

Text Books
After the final exams we expect each textbook that we issued to be returned. Please talk to your child and confirm that they still have all their books. Lost books will need to be replaced as we need them for the 2011 class. There will be the usual opportunity to sell the books that you bought.

The last week of term, namely 6th to 10th December will be managed in the following way:
On the 6th the pupils will get their exam scripts back to check. On the 7th, 8th and 9th the Prefects will run ‘spectrum week’ at the school. These will be 3 days of supervised activities. On the last day of school, Friday 10th December we will go to the beach and close at 11h00. On all the other days we will maintain our exam closing time of 13h00.

We wish all our pupils well as they study for these important final exams.

Yours sincerely

MR D DE KORTE
