CBHS Newsletter 8 - Sept '12

Dear Parents

We are at the end of the Third Term, and you now have your child’s report for this particular term. On the whole, we have been happy with the results. We are still concerned about a small group of Grade 9 pupils who are finding the volume of work difficult to manage. However, we will increase our intervention with these pupils next term to help ensure their success.

Enclosed with the report is the calendar for the Fourth Term (click here).

Some dates that I wish to bring to your attention are the following:

The Fourth Term starts on the 8th of October. This is also a Jewish holiday and so our Jewish pupils will only return on the 9th October.

On the 11th of October we have our Celebration evening. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend this evening, where we celebrate what we have done during the year. It is a joyous occasion and all pupils are required to attend.

The following day, the 12th October we say a fond farewell to our Grade 12’s at their Valedictory Service. Again, all Grade 12 parents are invited to a tea in the Matric garden prior to this farewell assembly.

I would also like to invite parents to come on Monday evening, the 15th October, to encourage the Matric Drama pupils at the dress rehearsal of their Matric practical performance pieces. Before they perform, there will be an opportunity to look at the Matric Art classes exam display.

Fund Raising Music Evening on 13th October:

The Primary School will be holding a fundraising event, (advertisement to follow). We regard the three Camps Bay Schools as one entity, and so I encourage you to support this event if you are able. It is a parent-run initiative being hosted and managed by a dynamic group of Bands who call themselves the ‘Doer Dads’.

In the previous newsletter we focussed attention on a number of our pupils who had achieved in areas outside and inside school.  We continue this by mentioning the following:

Sailing:

Well done to Stuart Coleman in Grade 10, who was part of the Hout Bay Yacht Club’s junior crew on the boat JML3 during the Lipton Cup in False Bay in August.

Goju-Kai: Martial Arts:

We are most proud of Sipho Pokolo in Grade 8 for attending the Goju-Kai South African Championship in Port Elizabeth. He returned with a gold, silver and bronze award for three different categories of competitions.

Judo:

Cole Goldie in Grade 8 took part in the Western Province interschool’s Judo Competition at the end of August in Cape Town. He came away with a first prize in the U50 kg division with a gold medal. Well done to him!

Science Expo:
