The three Camps Bay schools have embarked on a multi-dimensional initiative, which is aimed at welcoming visitors to Cape Town, educating learners on the World Cup and raising funds for African Brothers Football Academy.
The Preparatory, Primary and High schools in Camps Bay, situated on three separate campuses, each occupy strong geographic vantage points, which enjoy enormous traffic flow. As Camps Bay is one of Cape Town’s beautiful hotspots, which is bound to be visited by each and every visitor to the city during the World Cup, the schools intend to use their vantage points to erect branding welcoming visitors to Cape Town.
A strong campaign, educating learners about all aspects of the World Cup will be implemented at each of the schools, so that learners appreciate the magnitude of the event and its legacy.
The promotion culminates in a competition which runs across all three schools, where over 1 200 learners can choose the winner of the World Cup. Every Friday from 7 May 2010 to 28 May 2010, learners will be permitted to attend classes in football gear in the colours of their favourite team / wear badges. They pay R2 for the privilege. After the World Cup, the final draw will be on Friday, 16 July 2010.
The amounts collected each Friday go into a collective kitty. Three lucky learners who predicted the winner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will share half of the collected funds. The remaining money will be donated to the African Brothers Football Academy, a project run by a former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper in the City Bowl.
The project will be launched to all three schools at a special assembly at the High School Friday 30 April at 12h00. Guests invited are MEC of Education, MEC of Tourism, Craig Hepburn of the African Brothers Football Academy, FIFA Ambassador, MEC of Sport. After the assembly, the pupils will form an image of a soccer player on the field (photograph will taken from a helicopter) and then there will be a demonstration match between current 1st team vs past pupils.
